The bedroom leads to a second-floor study with a floor to ceiling bookshelf and an antique writing desk. Two spectacular ensuite queen rooms offer panoramic views of the bay and beach. Each bedroom opens to an enormous private ocean front balcony which runs the width of the villa. Loungers and ceiling fans invite guests to relax and enjoy the stunning views. The Spirit of Tulum Guest House is actually a mini compound of three bungalows. They're a nod to the local flavored beach construction which takes advantage of the omnipresent tropical breeze. The traditional roof style dates back eons to the Maya. A giant of a tree, a revered ceiba tree, is in front and provides shade. The Maya believe it also gives spiritual comfort.
There's no grass to mow or manicure, just sand that does not get hot due to the lack of silica or quartz. Rather, it is composed of microscopic plankton fossils and crushed coral that does not absorb heat. At approximately 1,500 ft², it is intentionally small and communal.
The front porch is the main attraction with the lazily circulating ceiling fans lending assistance to the Caribbean breeze that winds its way through the palm trees.
The bedrooms are comfortable with traditional tropical wooden slat shutters. The beds are comfotable, the bathrooms have modern fixtures and a shower.
Local wood is utilized for construction purposes, as is most of the furniture.
